The 2001 Marshall Scholars have set up a scholarship fund at Brown in Michael's memory. Please contact Alan Trammell (amtrammell@gmail.com) or Jason Wasfy (jason_wasfy@post.harvard.edu) with questions.
-----------------------------

Those of us who knew Michael will always remember him as a supremely intelligent and courageous person and, more important, a compassionate advocate for those whose lives had been touched by war and other atrocities.

Amidst the grief of Michael's death, no tribute could do justice to the memory of someone whom many of us had the privilege to call a friend. But I know that many people have expressed a desire to contribute to a fund that would help preserve Michael's legacy and foster the work that he cared so deeply about. Michael was a gifted academic whose passions took him across the world in an effort to understand the tragedies that often took center stage in his thinking and writing. Several friends have suggested that enabling young students to follow in Michael's footsteps, particularly during their formative years, would be the ideal tribute. Along those lines, we hope to create a scholarship that would provide travel grants to college students who, like Michael, want to pursue independent academic projects.

Those who would like to contribute to this fund may do so by writing checks payable to Brown University, clearly indicating that the gift is in memory of Michael Bhatia, and mailing the contribution to the following address:
